USA John Daren Smith, 32, of Taylorsville, died when the Black Hawk helicopter he was piloting went down in a sandstorm. The Army chief warrant officer was assigned to B Company, 5-158th Aviation Regiment, at Aviano Air Base, Italy.

USMC Norberto Mendez Hernandez, died Sunday, July 7, 2011, while conducting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. The 22-year-old graduate of Logan High School was assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division in Camp Pendleton, Calif. His battalion was assigned to the Sangin district, where Taliban fighters were attempting to regain control.

USA Raphael Arruda , 21, died Saturday in Kunar Province, Afghanistan, when a roadside bomb hit the mine-protected vehicle he was in. Arruda died of blunt force trauma just a week shy of his 22nd birthday. Arruda planned to study construction engineering in college and was saving money to build a summer home in his native Brazil.

USMC Daniel Gurr, died Friday, August 5, 2011 in Malozai, in the Sangin district of the deadly Helmand province of Afghanistan, shot in the head by small-arms fire while he was on patrol. He was 21 years old.

USN (SEAL) Jason Workman , 33, was aboard a Chinook helicopter that was shot down during a rescue mission about 60 miles from Kabul, Afghanistan. Workman grew up in Blanding and joined the Navy eight years ago.

McQuagge May 26, 2016  Gunnerís Mate Seaman Connor Alan McQuagge Died May 26 Serving Operation Inherent Resolve Gunner's Mate Seaman Connor Alan McQuagge, of Utah, died May 26 from a noncombat-related injury. McQuagge, 19, was assigned to the landing ship dock Harpers Ferry, forward deployed to the Red Sea.
